Howell Melon Festival Features 'Sensations', Fun

Livingston Sensations contest concludes at the Howell Melon Festival on Sunday.

Livingston Sensations Finals take place from 2-5 p.m. in the courthouse amphitheater. If the weather’s bad, the event will move to the Howell High School freshman campus.

Also on the courthouse lawn, the following events/services are available:

-Information booth, picnic area, and merchandise from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

-The chance to enjoy Howell Melon ice cream served up from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. by Rotary Club members.

-Biggest Howell Melon Weigh-in at 1 p.m.

Events at the historic train station/Howell Depot Museum, located north of Clinton on North Walnut, include:

-Tours of the museum from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

-Trolley tours of historic Howell, departing every hour on the hour from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

-Train rides from Howell to Byron Station; departures are at 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 4 p.m.

Children’s events include:

-Demonstration area located on North Michigan Avenue at Grand River Avenue, is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy My Adventure Theater and Pedal Puller Competition

-Inflatables from 11 a.m.-5p.m. on North Walnut

-MetroParks education trailer from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on North Michigan Avenue

Other events offered are:

-The revamped Fine Arts & Wares Show on North Walnut and West Clinton (information at 118 W. Clinton)

-Fine Art Show & Tours of The Opera House from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

-Sand Melon Ball (Volleyball Tournament) from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

-From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Box that Rocks! is offered by WHMI 93.5 FM

-Memory Lane in Peanut Row Alley, featuring historic Howell pictures submitted by residents; it’s north of Grand River between State Street and North Michigan Avenue.

-Howell Melon carts traveling up and down the streets from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. selling melons

-Food vendors and eating area on Clinton Street west of North Michigan Avenue

-Main entertainment stage on North Michigan Avenue at Clinton features Premier Big Band at 10 a.m. and shows by Animal Magic at noon and 2 p.m.

 -Thompson Lake Lunch Boat Cruise from noon-1:30 p.m., located at the Roosevelt St. public boat launch at Thompson Lake; cruise benefits the Humane Society of Livingston County.

-Bungee jump from 5-9 p.m.

-Guided tours of DIA Inside/Out exhibit take place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. hourly at the DIA booth

-Free melon wine tasting at Howell’s Main Street Winery, 201 W. Grand River Ave., from noon-5 p.m. Limited bottles available for purchase
