Rec 101: Intro to Ice Fishing

The Waterloo Recreation Area will host a 2012 Winter Free Fishing Weekend event in order to engage more individuals in fishing in the local community.

This exciting, family-friendly event will feature not only fishing demonstrations and instruction but snow snake racing, ice skating (bring your own skates), bonfire & hot chocolate, and making your own ice fishing jig.   The festivities will take place at the Mill Lake Boat Launch.  Take I-94 to Pierce Rd. exit, turn left on Bush Rd. and then left on McClure Rd.  Or if you’re real adventurous, park up at the Eddy Discovery Center and cross country ski the mile or two down to the lake.

The activities may be cancelled by park staff if the ice is deemed unsafe.  Contact the park directly at
616-527-3750 if you’d like to double-check the ice status prior to coming out.  Co-sponsoring the event is Knutson’s Sporting Goods located in Brooklyn, Michigan.
