Viewfinder: Atomic Cupcakes Junior Roller Derby

Brighton has its own junior roller derby team, the Atomic Cupcakes, who practice at Rollerama II.

What in the world is an Atomic Cupcake? Stop by in Brighton on a Monday afternoon and you'll find an exuberant group of girls who can answer that question.

With wild makeup, colorful costumes and derby names like The Bomb Quad, Smashin' Sam, Invader Doom and Hitty Kiddy, the Atomic Cupcakes are a junior roller derby team in training. They are looking forward to their first match at the end of summer. Coaches Lori Brogan and Kim Wheeler train girls ages 8 through 17 in the nuances of the sport.

According to Brogan, the Atomic Cupcakes are looking for more girls interested in becoming a part of the team. Practices are held Mondays from 4-6 p.m. Contact Brogan at 810-599-1914, call Rollerama II in Brighton at 810-227-2010 or visit the Brighton Junior Roller Derby Facebook page here for more information.
