Flags Donated to BHS

BHS is making an effort to become more patriotic by putting American flags in nearly all of the classrooms. Knights of Columbus generously donated the flags to BHS by request of teacher Stephanie Carroll.

Superintendent Greg Gray didn’t think that it was okay that 90 of the school’s classrooms didn’t have American flags so Carroll decided to take charge. A school mandate says that each classroom has to have a flag, but unfortunately BHS was one of the last schools to meet this mandate.

“I called the Knights of Columbus office and they were so nice about donating the flags. It was really easy and I am glad that it worked out so well. I am just glad that we were able to get flags for all the classrooms that didn’t have one,” Carroll said.

Students now have the option to say the Pledge of Allegiance in the presence of an American flag before each hour, but only if they choose. It is not a requirement.

“I think it is a great idea that Brighton got flags in all of our classrooms. It’s nice to see that Brighton is becoming more patriotic,” sophomore Lauren Coughlin said.

The task of acquiring these flags was easy, but it took someone actually wanting to take charge and do something about it and that is exactly what Carroll did.

“I want to make sure Mrs. Carroll gets one hundred percent credit for making the flag donations happen. It was all her doing and she did a terrific job doing so,” principal Gavin Johnson said.

Thanks to Knights of Columbus and Stephanie Carroll, students are able to express loyalty and patriotism for their country.
