Sustainability Literacy Task Force [SLTF]

The Sustainability Literacy Task Force is a multi-disciplinary committee of WCC instructors whose passion is to educate people about the benefits of sustainability and using the planet’s resources wisely.

Members include Dale Petty [Industrial Technology], Emily Thompson Ph.D. [Biology and Environmental Science], Maryam Barrie [English], Chef Alice Gannon-Boss [Culinary Arts] and David Mackres [Anthropology].

WHEN/WHERE: Thursday, Nov. 7, 6 p.m. Oct. 18 – Towsley Auditorium – in the Morris Lawrence Building, Washtenaw Community College, 4800 E. Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

WHY: “The Sustainability Literacy Task Force at WCC has chosen the Year of Energy to be our academic focus for the 2013-2014 school year. Because of its importance on a local, national and international scale, and its impact on many aspects of our lives, it is applicable to science, humanities, and occupational classes. Our current levels of energy consumption define much of what we think of as modern life and culture, yet we know that continued consumption of fossil fuels is unhealthy for the planet and its human population.  We hope that this discussion will help move the college and the wider community toward a sustainable future.” [Attribute quote to the WCC Sustainability Literacy Task Force – distinct members are listed above.]
