Residents Vote No on Road Millage Proposal
Brighton voters turned down a 15 year, 1.5 mill increase to fund a number of road improvement projects throughout the township on Tuesday.
Genoa Township residents voted no at the polls on Tuesday, not to approve a 15 year, 1.5 mill increase to fund a number of road improvement projects throughout the Township.
The proposal only received 1028 yes votes and 2894 no votes.
The proposed road millage was in response to a township survey where 65 percent of respondents said they would support additional taxes to improve and maintain roads and Genoa Township Manager Mike Archinal said the number showed a “desire” by residents for better roads in the community.
Residents living along Cunningham Lake Rd. in Brighton, however, began to band together weeks ago, voicing their concerns over having their road among the ones chosen for possible improvements.
On Tuesday, 38 year resident Paul Wholihan spent his day at a local polling location.
Calling the proposal "an ill-conceived message from the Township," Wholihan said that the generic question presented to voters by the Township didn't present enough information regarding specifics of the potential project.

- Herbst Road
- Cunningham Lake and Bauer Roads
- Bauer Road
- Hughes Road
