Police Catch Intruder Inside Occupied Brighton Township Home

A female homeowner calls police from locked bedroom to report a burglary in process.

From inside a locked room, a Brighton Township homeowner called police Thursday to quietly report someone was breaking into her home. According to Sgt. Mark Thompson, troopers from the Michigan State Police–Brighton Post arrived to find a burglary in progress.

Livingston County Central Dispatch advised the homeowner to stay in her locked bedroom and remain very quiet, police said. The homeowner told dispatchers she could hear someone inside the home and that at one time someone was trying to open the bedroom door.

Troopers Chris Grace and Renee Gonzalez and Trooper Investigator Jeff Frasier arrived at the house in the 11000 block of Brandywine Drive and found an open door at the back.

Troopers entered to discover a 20-year-old man in the living room. They took him into custody without incident, Thompson said, and found items from the home in his possession.

The suspect, who is from the Brighton area, was lodged at the Livingston County Jail pending arraignment in the 53rd District Court, police said.
