5 Things About the Census in Brighton

2010 Census data is in. Here's a first glance at Brighton and Brighton Township.

On Tuesday, 2010 Census figures began trickling in from the U.S. Census Bureau. Stay tuned to Patch for continuing local analysis as more data becomes available regarding Brighton and Brighton Township. For now, here's a snapshot of the area based on total population growth:

1) The City of Brighton saw a rise in population of 10.6 percent from 2000 to 2010, going from 6,730 residents to 7,444; a gain of 714 people.

2) Brighton Township saw a .7 percent increase, going from 17,673 people in 2000 to 17,791 in 2010 for a total gain of 118.

3) The most populous municipality in Livingston County is Hamburg Township (21,165), followed by Genoa Township (19,821), Brighton Township (17,791), Green Oak Township (17,476) and Hartland Township (14,663).

4) Combined, Brighton and Brighton Township have 25,235 residents.

5) Livingston County grew by 15.3 percent since the last census, going from a population of 156,951 in 2000 to 180,967 in 2010. It had the second largest percentage change in population in the state behind Clinton County. Michigan's largest county, Oakland, with 1,202,362 people, grew by just .7 percent in the last decade.
